How to Calculate Your Grade
Your grade in a course is determined by how many points you earn out of the total possible. For a simple test, divide the number of correct answers by total questions and multiply by 100. For example, 42 correct out of 50 questions = 84%.
Most courses use weighted grading, where different types of assignments count for different percentages of your final grade. Homework might be 20%, quizzes 15%, midterm 25%, and the final exam 40%. Your weighted grade is the sum of each category's score multiplied by its weight.
How to Calculate Weighted Grades
To calculate a weighted grade: (1) multiply each category score by its weight, (2) add the results together. For example, if homework is 20% and you have 95%, and tests are 80% and you have 82%: weighted grade = (0.95 × 20) + (0.82 × 80) = 19 + 65.6 = 84.6%. Make sure all weights add up to 100%.
